The Secretary of the National Committee for Human Settlement of the Islamic Republic of Iran rose cooperation between the University of Tehran and the National Committee for Human Settlement of the Islamic Republic of Iran to achieve sustainable development

The National Committee for Human Settlement of the Islamic Republic of Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Faculty of Geography and the faculty of Urban Planning of the University of Tehran.

At the signing ceremony of the MoU between the National Committee of Human Settlement of I R. Iran and the Faculty of Geography of the University of Tehran, which was held virtually, the cooperation capacity of the parties, were discussed. In this meeting which was hosted by faculty of Geography of the University of Tehran, Mohammad Mehdi Mazaheri the General –Secretariat of National Committee of Human Settlement, Keramatullah Ziari, Dean of the Faculty of Geography,  as well as all deputies of the Faculty of Geography, and Dean of the Institute of Geography, University of Tehran, were present.

Mazaheri pointed to the role of universities as a think tank of the societies and added: Universities can lead other pillars of society.  They can define the social role of individuals and organizations to enhance social capital and impediment it to different aspects of a country's sustainable development.

He also, referring to the position of the National Committee for Human Settlement of I.R.Iran as an infra-organizational body, said: "This committee, as a national body with an international perspective, can use interior and exterior capacities to advance the country's development goals towards sustainable urban development." This is one of the provisions of this memorandum to take a step and implement it".

Mazaheri added: The Faculty of Geography, University of Tehran has a long experience in the subject of development, and urban and rural planning, which are the valuable experiences that can help the National Committee to implement the United Nations in Iran in achieving sustainable development goals in the 26 defined areas.

Also, he pointed to an important dimension, namely justice and justice-oriented development, and said: The National Committee for Human Settlement of Iran is looking for a model of development, in which people regardless of their religion, gender, race, ethnicity, and even place of living have the same access and right to the benefits of development. Therefore, this cooperation is important because it can provide the basis for spatial justice in the country.

The MoU between the National Committee and the Faculty of Geography, University of Tehran has been organized in seventeen paragraphs, including cooperation in joint projects, knowledge exchange, the establishment of the scientific resources and working groups, organizing joint events and other subjects aligned with the mandate of the National Committee for Human settlement of the I.R. Iran.
